Discover the Surprising Benefits of Taking a Cold Shower
Share
Have you ever thought about the benefits of taking a warm or even cold shower? If you haven't tried it yet, now might be the perfect time to consider changing your habits...
I must admit that I was also a newbie to this practice. Until a few months ago, I always took very hot showers! I loved the feeling! I looked askance at anyone who said they took cold showers and thought: "No way!". Until I decided to give it a try. I made the transition gradually: in the last summer months (September and October), I gradually reduced the temperature of my shower. I started with hot/lukewarm water and gradually lowered the temperature until I ended up with almost cold water. Even in January. Believe me, it's not as hard as it seems!
Advantages of Taking Cold Showers
Environmental Sustainability
Taking less hot showers saves energy and resources . Faster showers also help save water. The planet will thank you!
Skin Health
Your skin will thank you! Before, I had to use vegetable oil or moisturizer after showering because my skin would get very dry. Now, I haven't used anything after my showers with natural soap for months. This is due to the " overgreasing "* in the soap production process.
The Logic Behind Cold Showers
Hot water removes part of the protective barrier of the epidermis, leaving it drier. This layer, composed of the natural oils that our body produces, is eliminated with very hot water. Think about it: when you wash the dishes, does the grease come off better with hot or cold water? The same thing happens with our skin.
